My Art Manifesto:

This is from the free writing task we did during the academic support session at the beginning of the unit. Looking back, you can probably tell I had no idea what I was saying or doing— I was just writing whatever popped into my head.
I don’t really have a specific art style or theme that I focus on. My art is always kind of spontaneous, based on whatever’s happening in the world, or what I’ve recently read or watched. I get ideas and inspiration from all over—whether it’s visiting galleries or just walking around London. I just make what I feel like making and put it out there.
Especially with this course, I’m learning all these different programs, techniques, and ways to present art. Sometimes I even wonder, “Is this still art?” or “How far can I push it for it to still be considered suitable?” For me, art’s more about the idea and the process—trying something new and unexpected without holding yourself back.
Art can be super deep and meaningful, connecting with people and making an impact, but it can also just be doodles or even a red square on a canvas. It’s a space to escape and create something that doesn’t always need a meaning. We can say that art’s is about emotions or how the audience sees it, but some artists make questionable or uncomfortable art, and thats art in itself. Everyone has different tastes, so I guess you can’t always pin art down to the audience’s reaction.
Also, do you think humans can not be creative, I mean everything around us involved some sort of creativity? Like, is nature art, or does art have to be man-made? Is it about the little things? I don’t know, but I always find myself stressing over whether I’ve done enough, if my idea’s good, or if people will like it. It’s tough because art isn’t like maths or history—there are no strict rules or timelines. It’s open, free, and totally up for interpretation.
Look at movements like Dadaism or Anti-art—they were all about rejecting traditional ideas of art, but we still see them as art today. So why should I limit myself or stick to a checklist?
And actually, is this text—or the free writing itself—art? It’s raw, unfiltered, and spontaneous, which could make it art in its own way. If art is about expression, then maybe this is art too. Who knows?
Anyway, thanks for letting me ramble! What do you think?
